We made it to Rome

We'll we are in Rome.  The first adventure was the first class seats on the airplane.  I've never been on a plane with this type of cocoon seats before and Amy was "country girl come to town."  The seats had electrical outlets, USB chargers, private TV with current movies, a gps screen to show your location and the seats reclined into full beds.  Add champagne, wine, four course meal and I think Amy would have been fine just to live on the plane for a while.

Our hotel is directly behind the Pantheon, which was a temple built for the Roman gods at the time of Christ and rebuilt by Augustus Caesar in 127 AD. It is truly amazing.  It is currently an active Catholic church. Compare the height of the folks in the pictures and you will get a sense of how big it is.

Maggie, Mallory and Emma, the fact that most people here only speak Italian has not prevented your mother from striking up conversations with people on the plane, the train, the taxi, the hotel, the restaurant, etc.  However, she is yet to find anyone from East Meck and her search continues.

ok, now it's equal time for Amy.  The first-class set-up was truly amazing, I watched the new Spider Man flick, had wine and talapia and was able to get some shut-eye before we landed.  It was definitaly worth using 3 years of USAirway frequent flyer miles to get that seat!! We made the train, only to learn that the other trains were on strike today so the line for taxi's was about 300 people.  We saw a fight but the polizia quickly intervened.  Our hotel is charming and very near Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon, etc.  It's awesome seeing how well the cars, scooters and bicycles navigate the narrow  streets.  We will not be letting Fred drive here!! He is enjoying the hotel wi-fi and the camera. The weather is glorious, 70 degrees and NO HUMIDITY, YAY!!! Tonight we will go exploring, we are near many sights and restaurants so vino is definitely on the agenda.  Stay tuned for more tomorrow, buona sera, Amy

  1. I always knew Fred was a first class guy. Be prepared for daily strikes, late trains and four hour meals with local bottomless vino bottles. Soooooooo jealous!!! Have a great time, prego.

  2. Also watch for scooters...They come out of nowhere. And don't think you can take a walk down the sidewalk. That's where Romans park their cars! See all the sights. Rome is a fascinating city.
